IMPORTANT MESSAGES TO ALL FINANCIAL MEMBERS
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING XX OCTOBER 2017
All Positions on the Committee, President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and three Committee Members are declared vacant at the AGM and an election of volunteers must take place.
To ensure the voting is done within accepted practices Mark [Blue] Worrall has agreed to be the returning officer. Mark will also be acting secretary in the period before the AGM and election.
If you are interested in nominating yourself to become a member of the committee, please send your name and the position you are interested in to Blue Worrall at firstname.lastname@example.org. If we have more names for a position a vote is required. All financial members are permitted to vote for the person of their selection. Closing date for nominations will be 31st august 2017, voting will be concluded by 1st October 2017.
The returning officer will coordinate the voting, and pass the result to me in a sealed envelope a week before the AGM. The envelope will be opened, and results announced at the AGM.
To ensure further progress and development of the association we need members to volunteer. I especially would like to have some more serving members on the committee, or as an ex-officio committee member.
CHANGES TO MEMBERSHIP FEES
Whilst regrettable, a change to membership fees has been deemed necessary to maintain our financial status. The cost of chasing yearly fees and maintaining prizes for MLP courses makes the yearly fee unsustainable.
From July 1 2017, there will be only one membership level. Member for life – cost $110. The yearly membership of $12 will be discontinued, unless you are paid up in advance to 2019/2020.
Members who have paid 10 years or more of continual yearly memberships will automatically become members for life. Short comings for less than ten continuous years will be advised to the individual so they can pay in a lump sum the amount required to the $110 member for life fee. Remember you can claim this on your tax return as we are a not for profit organisation.
Some benefits to financial members is discount on each function that the association runs ie the 2018 reunion members get a discount on the event, and name badges will cost $10 instead of the full price of $17.

Sydney Scribes get together Friday 27 October 2017everyone is invited to a Sydney – siders get together. Complete with a new venue, upstairs in The Castlereigh club (the old Catholic Club behind defence plaza) this is a social gathering, no formal proceedings, where attendees can have a drink and/or purchase a meal from the brasserie (good food at a reasonable price).
Never been to one of these before? No problem you will be made very welcome. Mark would love to see some new fresh faces attending – along with some old faces.
SESSION 022 – FIRST COURSE TO BE NAMED MARITIME LOGISTICS PERSONNEL – OPERATORS
Do we know names? Future postings, dreams of service, expectations etc
We know all the names, but not sure of where they are posted to. This would be the job of one of the EX-Officio serving member of the addition to Committee Members, as we are finding it very difficult to keep track of them, unless they keep in touch with us.

Do we know why she is Student of Merit? Maybe a spiel on being Dux of the course or finishing in all but one exam in the 90th percentile etc.
Dux of the Year is not proclaimed until the end of the Year. As long as 2 courses/sessions are held the Dux is selected from their Scores. Student of Merit is someone who shows the most help to their class members and worked aiding a member who might be having a few problems. The Dux of the Year need not be a Student of Merit for the year.

When I was young, many years ago – I joined the Navy, why I don’t know
I served with Honour and Pride – For this young boy, it was quite a ride
I went to places, I never dreamed – Time went fast, so it seemed
I met people, I’ll never forget – And some, I wish I’d never met
But as I think back on those days gone by – My ship, My shipmates, brings a tear to My eye
I didn’t know it then, never gave it a thought – But my time in the Navy, could not have been bought
I guess we all feel the same after we’re out – The pride we feel, that’s what it’s about
Having served our Nation, keeping it free – Protecting our way of life, and our liberty
And the friends I made, along the way – Would I do it again? – Any day

THE WEB PAGE AND DATA BASE.
As you know i have been making statements re the update to the web and data base for some time. Matt Regan is working on it and he has sent me some information as to how the new data/web/site page will work. Here are some of the new ideas being put in place.
Member profiles: this will allow a member to upload photos, write articles, bio’s etc.
Bio’s: will become part of the members profile rather than a separate document. Deceased members will not have a profile, but where a bio exists there will be an individual article for each and it will be accessible via the memorial page. Where are you what are you doing? Sea service: will be part of the members profile
People photos: members will be able to create albums and upload photos. This will be part of their members profile
Courses: much the same, although there will be an album where course photos can be uploaded
Roll call and hall of fame:
Links: we will try to ensure that all the sites we list will also list us.
Contact us: will contain a form that will keep the email address encrypted so it will be safe from site trolling bots.
