Welcome back. I hope you all had a Merry Christmas and look forward to happy and successful New Year.

The new distribution system came with some minor glitches but we are sure these can be overcome. This did cause some timeliness issues.

To help facilitate a quicker and more streamlined anyone who has not given us an email address please do so.

From Web Master: Matt Regan

I will be placing a notice on the website and Facebook for all members to contact me at – – with their membership number, full name and the email address they want listed for their membership. This will allow me to update the database and also send out login details.

President’s Report:

Sadly, on 19TH October 2017, I, and several other scribes, attended the funeral of WO Laurie Dillion.

On 29th November 2017, Graeme Campbell represented the Association at the unofficial Christmas reception hosted by the Department of Veteran Affairs for Ex-Service Organisations.

On a positive note, I had the good fortune to attend the Maritime Logistics Personnel – Operators graduation on 29th November 2017 and presented the Student of Merit Award to SMNMLP-O Christine Cunliffe. Christine is a very worthy recipient with an all-round high academic record.

Wran.Writer. WILLA RUMBLE [NEE LOATS] W2362. Served 1944 to 1946.

Served in HMAS LONSDALE and with the USN.

Blast from the past, Rudi Suckow has been in touch. He has even updated his photo – little bit different from the one we have in our records (circa 1980s).

We also received the following from Julie Devlyn; “Thanks for the ad. I finished Writer’s Course in Sep ’88 (?) after changing over from apprentice – had joined in Jan’87 originally. I stayed in until ’96. Was at CERBERUS personnel office, payroll, accounts, maintenance dept, coxswains office etc, Left there and then went to MHQ and after a brief stint in Registry, basically worked in secret dungeons until paying off. I have absolutely no pics of time in, and am hoping someone has some. I can remember POWTR Mieklejohn and POWTR Saunders and had an awesome POWRWTR instructor but cannot remember her name at all! Also LSWTR Tony Wilmot WOWTR Brian Rochford, LWRWTR Sharon Lynne, and not many more! There was another 3 ‘Julies’ that were also writers that I worked with, can’t remember surnames though. I think the copious amount of alcohol consumed at every meal break back then led to some weird memory issues. Also I mainly used to ride motorbikes. Would be great to see if anyone else in the group knows who I am talking about. Cheers Jules”

Anyone who can help here please ensure you also keep the Association in the loop.

Jules, please contact the Association so we can get all your details and maybe help.

Initially, when the proposal was put forward for Adelaide to host a reunion in 2018, a decision was made not to include merchandise or memorabilia.

However, due to an increase in interest a cloth patch has been designed to commemorate the reunion.

A limited number of these patches will be available at the meet and greet on Friday evening at a cost of $10.

You can have a blue, black or white background.

The manufacturer, IDM Clothing, has also agreed to accept orders direct should attendees decide to purchase polo shirts with the 2018 cloth logo attached.

To order a polo shirt, with logo, please contact the Phil Laing:-

Mr Phil Laing, Clothing Manager, IDM CLOTHING – Mobile 0400812106 OR Phone 08 83715794.

Phil Laing will be able to provide a catalogue of selected polo shirt styles available. Cost and payment is still to be determined and will depend on the demand.

Orders will be available for collection at the meet and greet.

Orders will close on 07 April to allow time for production.

Great News From Our Web Master

Matt has organised with Sir Yes Sir Global, to produce and donate a ring as a raffle prize for the 2018 reunion. They will create a one off silver ring with the scribes association logo on it and the winner can also have name, service number, rate badge lasered on the side. The ring will be sized and engraved for the winner.

They have a number of RAN rings already available. Click on the link below to view the products of this company.

Maritime Logistic Personnel Workgroup:

At attachment A is a full report by WO Phil Robertson that will be of interest for a lot of the old and bolds. Phil notes the many changes in the journey to get to the MLP rate and the numbers required. The numbers in this work group are a huge departure from the ‘old’ scribe days.
